Learning how to keep a healthy relationship can be a challenge for many individuals. The give and take of learning how to deal with other personalities and mannerisms can be difficult or almost impossible without learning how to communicate, compromise and mediate. But the benefits will be well worth the efforts - having someone in your life that you can love and trust is priceless and irreplaceable.
Be open and honest. While there are some things that are better left undisclosed and unsaid, being out in the open with who you are, your past mistakes, your shortcomings as well as your talents, and your personal quirks are all important. People need to know you for who you really are, not just who you appear to be on the outside.
Maintain open lines of communication at all times. Small misunderstandings and errors in judgment will happen much less frequently if you can explain or interpret actions or words simply and clearly. You do not want to play mind games, mislead or manipulate a person that you truly care about.,
Compliment the other person often. Find little ways to make his days happier, brighter and better. Give negative feedback in subtle and diplomatic ways rather than bluntly and rudely. Offset anything negative that needs to be said with a stronger and more positive statement or observation.
Contribute to the relationship by becoming a giver, not a taker. Surprise the person with small favors and tokens of affection and caring. Be there when they need emotional support or extra assistance with personal problems. Provide them with all they need to feel loved, cared for and appreciated. Be a rock for them in times of trouble or pain.
Always look ahead into the future. Past hurts and pain have no place in your day-to-day living. Let it all go and start over every morning when the sun rises. Be progressive instead of regressive and your life and bonds with other individuals will be so much stronger.
Pave the way for a better and brighter future. Constantly find ways to make your relationship stronger and better. Be thankful and appreciative for the opportunity you have to have this person in your life. Plan on a long term bond - temporary and transient individuals are often not worth the effort and time it takes to get to know and care about them. They are often gone before true love or caring will have time to develop. You will not learn to love someone overnight, even in the case of love at first sight. Sometimes it takes years to truly know someone.
Try to see things from other views when there are misunderstandings and arguments. Do not be inflexible and unyielding - every body needs to give a little from time to time. And be a good listener without interjecting your own opinions and issues when the other person is trying to explain something to you.
Knowing how to keep a healthy relationship will assist you throughout your life in forming bonds with spouses, lovers, parents, siblings and children. This is even important in the workplace. No man is an island and everyone needs someone to love and care for them.
